Job Overview

The Designated Nursing Assistant / Certified Nursing Assistant (DNA/C.N.A) is responsible for providing direct resident care including nursing/clinical care, personal, nutritional, and restorative care in the skilled nursing operations and other areas throughout the community as appropriate. Responsible for demonstrating the Mission for Sunrise Senior Living, “to champion quality of life for all seniors” in accordance with federal, state, and local standards and regulations and Sunrise Senior Living policies to promote the highest degree of quality care and services to our guests/residents.

Responsibilities & Qualifications
Essential Duties
  • Deliver care and services for designated guests/residents according to Individualized Service Plans (ISP).
  • Report all incidents immediately to appropriate supervisor / team member.
  • Report suspected abuse immediately per regulations and Sunrise standards.
  • Participate in the care planning for their designated guests/residents.
  • Perform individualized personal care and activities of daily living (ADL); document ADL in flow sheets.
  • Partner with licensed nurse to plan, develop, organize, provide, and execute individualized restorative therapy programs, activities, and standards for their designated guests/residents.
  • Obtain, document, and report the guest/resident’s vital signs, urine output, and meal intake per individualized care plan to licensed nurse as requested.
  • Observe and report any physical and/or psychosocial changes of condition requiring a licensed nurse intervention and care services.
  • Assist in maintaining assistive devices, adaptive equipment, and other medical equipment including cleaning and making them readily available.
  • Maintain Restorative Records for each guest/resident.
  • Maintain knowledge of federal, state/provincial, and local resident care regulations.
Quality Indicators
  • Strive for excellent quality care and service delivery as measured in the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) process.
  • Be competent in behavior interventions and management.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in key quality improvement areas such as ADL, skin care, dining assistance, bowel/bladder elimination, falls prevention, and Resident Centered Care model.
Guest/Resident, Family, and Visitor Relations
  • Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner using the Problem Resolution process.
  • Invite, Encourage, and Assist (IEA) guests/residents to meals.
  • Assist guests/residents during transfers or discharges, including collecting belongings and escorting to transportation.
  • Greet new guests/residents, orient them to their room and community layout, and provide activity calendar.
  • Inventory and label guest/resident belongings at admission and ongoing.
Risk Management and Safety
  • Ensure community compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and promote Risk Management programs.
  • Practice safety procedures including PPE, fire safety, SDS, and Lockout Tagout.
  • Attend to and dispose of hazardous materials safely, and report occupational exposures immediately.
  • Store oxygen tanks safely, monitor levels, and exchange tanks when empty.
Training and Team Success
  • Participate actively as a team member and contribute to team goals.

  • Engage in programs and surveys to improve team and customer engagement.
  • Attend meetings and required training to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Valid license as a Certified Nursing Assistant in accordance with regulations.
  • High School Degree / GED required.
  • Previous CNA experience preferred.
  • Desire to serve and care for seniors.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and communicate effectively.
  • Good judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Availability to work weekends, evenings, and flexible hours.
  • Ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
  • If driving a Sunrise vehicle, must understand safety and regulatory duties.
