Job summary

Su Clinica Familiar's HARLINGEN CLINIC seeks a nurse-midwife to provide primary health care for well-women, including pregnancy and postpartum care, within PCMH guidelines. You will collaborate with obstetricians and medical consultants while guiding patients in decision-making and safety.

The role requires Texas RN and board-approved APN credentials, CPR, and the ability to work extended hours if needed. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred to support diverse patient needs.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Must be a registered nurse in the State of Texas.
  • Must be Board approved to practice as an advanced practice nurse.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Initial N95 mask fit testing and annual retesting may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary health care management for well women across the reproductive cycle under nurse-midwifery guidelines.
  • Review and complete medical histories and socio-economic data.
  • Manage normal pregnancy, labor, delivery and postpartum care with counseling and support.
  • Consult with Obstetrician or Medical Consultant for complex cases.

Job Location: HARLINGEN CLINIC - HARLINGEN, TX 78550

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: Will perform all duties to ensure the patients have a pleasant and satisfactory experience in the manner in which their health care is delivered, managed, coordinated with both internal and external entities and in which the patient participates in the decision making. As a member of the clinical team, this position requires total support to the PCMH principles, policies, and procedures.

Functions under the administrative and clinical supervision of the Director of Su Clinica Women’s Health Center. Supports the established philosophy, policies and protocols of Su Clinica and adheres to the philosophy and standards of the American College of Nurse-Midwives.

Due to the nature of SC Services, it may be necessary for employees to work extended hours or other variations of the usual shift to ensure adequate care to patients. Employees must be easily accessible by phone. As appropriate, provider will be providing services to patients by any of the following methods: telemedicine, telehealth, telephonic.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Provides primary health care management for well women throughout the reproductive cycle within the framework of the established nurse-midwifery guidelines.
  • Reviews and completes medical, obstetrical, family, dietary, and socio-economic histories within a problem oriented approach.
  • Manages the normal (low-risk) pregnancy, labor, delivery and postpartum courses of women, including teaching, counseling and providing support to the women and their families.
  • Consults with Obstetrician or Medical Consultant regarding patients with complications falling outside of the nurse-midwifery guidelines.
  • Participates in in-service education for clinic staff and other professional groups.
  • Maintains data for Su Clinica and completes charts in EMR within guidelines.
  • Assures that patient care services are consistently within developed criteria for Su Clinica by participating in Peer Review, Quality Assurance, Utilization Review, and other activities conducted by Su Clinica.
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively work in a group nurse-midwifery practice utilizing a team-oriented approach.
  • Participates in the education and clinical supervision of nurse-midwifery students and other health care professionals obtaining on-site experience.
  • Evaluates and updates protocols, policies and procedures of the department on an on-going basis.
  • Maintains current certification for basic CPR by the American Heart Association and NRP by American Academy of Pediatrics.
  • Submits required documentation in a timely manner (credentialing requirements, license renewals, certifications, CNE attendance, etc.).
  • Responsible for their own safety as well as the safety of others. Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with clinic leave policy and performs other duties assigned.
  • Must always adhere to a professional appearance in dress and behavior/conduct.
  • Participates in Women’s Health access, continuity, and quality initiatives to support timely prenatal, postpartum, gynecologic, and reproductive health care.
  • Participates in obstetric risk management activities, including review and implementation of emergency protocols, escalation workflows, drills, and required annual training as applicable to role and scope.
  • Supports timely identification, escalation, and transfer coordination for obstetric red flags, including severe hypertension in pregnancy, postpartum warning signs, abnormal fetal assessment concerns, and other urgent maternal safety issues.
  • Completes timely documentation, results review, patient notification, and follow-up planning consistent with organizational closed-loop communication expectations.
  • Works collaboratively with nursing, referrals, medical records, laboratory, and operational teams to support patient-centered Women’s Health workflows and reduce care delays.
  • Participates in quality and value-based initiatives relevant to Women’s Health, including preventive screenings, postpartum follow-up, abnormal results tracking, and risk-based patient outreach.

  • Knowledge of Patient-Centered Medical Home Model (PCMH).
  • Knowledge of SCF policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.) programs.
  • Knowledge in the use of electronic mail.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / CERTIFICATES / LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. Must be a registered nurse in the State of Texas. Must be Board approved to practice as an advanced practice nurse. Experience in working with the public. Must be current with CPR. This position requires an initial N95 mask fit testing and annual test fitting thereafter unless there is a significant change during the year that requires retesting prior to the annual fit testing.
