6 Central is a 26-bed neuroscience unit, including a Continuous Epilepsy Monitoring Unit and Stroke Units. Neuroscience nurses collaborate with healthcare team members to provide evidence-based care to patients with neurological conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, neurodegenerative and neuromuscular diseases. The unit offers specific Neuro Core Curriculum classes during RN orientation to promote neuroscience nursing education. While primarily focused on neurological conditions, the unit also admits patients from other specialties like trauma surgery, GYN, Hematology/Oncology, and General Medicine. Apply Today!

TIME TYPE: FULL TIME (3, 12-hour shifts per week)

SHIFT: ROTATING

  • Measure and record vital signs for new patients on admission.
  • Document patient information clearly via electronic medical records.
  • Maintain consistent performance despite workload changes.
  • Report observations regarding patient welfare to appropriate staff.
  • Recognize and report emergency situations.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Position Compensation Range: $15.37 - $23.82 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent

Experience: No experience required

Licensure: American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS Certification required.

Additional Qualifications:
  • Certified to practice as a Nurse Aide in Virginia OR meet one of the following:
  • Successful completion of the UVA PCT Education Program or an approved equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of recent (within 2 years) experience in a similar PCT role, with certification and successful skills demonstration during probation.
  • Passage of a nationally recognized PCT certification exam (e.g., C-PCT).
  • OR meet criteria such as being a student nurse with clinical experience, EMT certification, or nursing program graduate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This role requires frequent bending/stooping, driving (Home Health Aide only), and lifting/pushing/pulling 20-50 lbs or more (Home Health Aide only). Proficient communication, auditory, and visual skills are necessary. Exposure to chemicals, blood, body fluids, and infectious diseases is possible.
