Position Summary:

An Advanced Care Technician (ACT-Float) works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, providing basic patient care and comfort measures. Responsibilities include caring for infants (0-1 year), pediatric (1-13 years), and adult patients (14+ years).

Major Responsibilities:

The duties listed reflect the key responsibilities necessary for competent job performance. They are not exhaustive and may change based on organizational needs.

  • Maintain a safe, clean environment, adhering to safety and infection control protocols.
  • Provide comfort measures and assist with daily needs and meals.
  • Record vital signs and observations, including temperature, pulse, weight, and input/output.
  • Prepare and report on medical equipment condition.
  • Transport patients as needed.
  • Prepare formulas in the NICU Department.

Qualifications:

  • ACT: 3-6 months experience in an acute care setting (preferred).
  • ACT-Float: 1-year experience in an acute care setting (preferred).
  • NICU Department: Minimum 2 years CNA experience; pediatric experience strongly preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Proficiency in English required.
  • Knowledge of electronic charting preferred.

Education:

  • Current California Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification, or
  • Current California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license, or
  • Military corpsman, or
  • Nursing student who has completed fundamentals, including assessment and vital signs.

Certification:

  • Current BLS certification (American Heart Association Healthcare Provider), required at hire.
  • NVCI certification within 90 days of hire or transfer (ED, BHU IP & OP only).
  • Maintain 10+ related CE hours annually, from TCMC or other sources.

All new hires must pass a physical exam, urine drug screen, and background checks before employment begins.
