Job summary

Harris Regional Medical Center in Sylva, NC is seeking a PRN Certified Nursing Assistant for our 12-bed Progressive Care/Telemetry unit. As a Med/Surg CNA, you will support RNs with vital signs, ADLs, and patient comfort while delivering compassionate care.

You must hold an NC CNA license and BLS certification; the role emphasizes critical thinking, teamwork, and the ability to work in a busy, high-acuity setting.

Qualifications

  • Must have current NC CNA listing and High School diploma or equivalent.
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Ability to think critically, make rapid decisions, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a high-stress environment and deliver patient‑centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including vital signs and monitoring.
  • Assists with activities of daily living and personal care (bathing, grooming, eating, ambulation).
  • Reports abnormal findings or changes in patient condition to nursing staff.
  • Keeps patient rooms and common areas stocked, clean and orderly.

Join our team in a 12-bed Progressive Care Unit/Telemetry unit with a nurse‑to‑patient ratio of 1:4. We are staffed with RNs, CNAs, Telemetry Techs, and unit secretaries, providing specialized care for patients primarily diagnosed with respiratory failure and cardiac conditions. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, utilizing advanced monitoring technology to deliver high‑quality patient care and ensure optimal outcomes for our diverse patient population.

How you'll contribute
  • Performs basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, possibly taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
  • Assists patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living, including but not limited to bathing, grooming, eating, and ambulation.
  • Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  • Assists with keeping patient rooms and common areas stocked, clean and orderly.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a current listing as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with the state of North Carolina Division of Facility Services and a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Additional requirements include:

  • Certifications: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Licenses: Current Listing as a Certified Nursing Assistant with the state of North Carolina Division of Facility Services with no substantiated findings of abuse, neglect or misappropriation of property in a facility that provides Nursing Care.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent, required.
