Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist under the supervision of a licensed nurse or registered nurse, following authorized medication procedures.
  • Prepare, pass, and document routine prescribed medications and PRN medications upon nurse’s instruction.
  • Accurately document all PRN medications according to state standards.
  • Observe and report reactions and side effects of medications to the charge nurse.
  • Record vital signs before administering medications that may affect them.
  • Prepare and administer medications permitted for aides, documenting all in the resident’s clinical record.
  • Administer oxygen in emergencies, then notify the nurse and document appropriately.
  • Count and document narcotics as directed by the charge nurse.
Qualifications
  • Successfully completed a state-approved medication administration training program.
  • Possess a current acknowledgment card or certification from the state.
  • Willing to adhere to restrictions imposed by the state agency.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required.
