Job description

Basic Function

To enhance the lives of the residents by providing care and services, companionship and comfort to the residents.

Specific Requirements
  1. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  2. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
  3. Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
Essential Functions
  1. Pass medications - Must have Medication Aide Certification.
  2. Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living as defined in the resident care plan.
  3. Provide housekeeping and laundry services in residents' units and common areas as indicated on the daily checklist.
  4. Set tables, serve meals and bus tables using Serving Guidelines.
  5. Answer call lights in a timely manner and respond appropriately.
  6. Respond to any and all medical emergencies following established emergency procedures.
  7. Attend training and in-services as scheduled.
  8. Interact professionally with residents' family members.
  9. Carry out all duties as defined on the checklists.
  10. Provide transportation services for the residents as needed.
  11. Complete special projects as assigned by supervisor.
  12. Assist residents with medication administration as defined by the regulatory agency.
  13. Document all resident information and concerns in the communication book.
Physical And Sensory Requirements

(With or without the aid of mechanical devices)

  1. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  2. Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
  3. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  4. Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable the senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met (i.e., accurately read measurements on patient/resident related equipment such as thermometers, monitors, gauges).
  5. Must be able to function independently, have personal integrity, flexibility, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies.
  6. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  7. Must be able to relate and work with the disabled, ill, elderly, emotionally upset, and hostile people within the facility at all times.
  8. Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move a minimum of 50 pounds.
  9. Must be able to safely evacuate the residents.

  1. Decisions are made that reflect knowledge and good judgment and demonstrate an awareness of residents' and families' needs.
  2. Awareness of personal limitations is evident and assistance is sought when necessary.
  3. Takes pride in appearance and dress code is adhered to.
  4. Responsibility is taken for own professional growth. All mandatory and other in-services are attended annually.
  5. Organizational ability and time management skills are demonstrated.
  6. Confidentiality of residents is respected at all times (i.e., when answering telephone and/or speaking to co-workers).
  7. Professional behavior is demonstrated.
  8. Residents' Rights are adhered to.

  1. Problems are identified, solutions are suggested and communication regarding the problem is appropriate.
  2. All work areas are neat and clean.
  3. Assistance is provided to families.

  1. A positive working relationship with residents, visitors and facility staff is demonstrated.
  2. Authority is acknowledged and response to the direction of supervisors is appropriate.
  3. Time is spent with residents rather than other personnel.
  4. Co-workers are readily assisted as needed.
