Job description

The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs technical duties in the field of patient care and participates in the general health care of patients by providing assistance with cleanliness, grooming, rest, activity, nourishment, and distribution of medications. Assists the professional staff in maintaining a safe therapeutic environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Collects, reports, and documents data: vital signs, height and weight, intake and output, pulse oximetry, and collects specimens.
  2. Assists with patient activities and care as assigned by the charge nurse/designee according to the patient's plan of care.
  3. Provides for patient's personal hygiene; assists with chronic wound care; assists with feeding; and ambulates, positions, and turns patients with altered mobility.
  4. Maintains a safe, comfortable environment; manages pharmacy and nursing medications and supplies.
  5. Distributes and documents patient's medications, both in general population and administrative segregation, following Title 40, Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 95, "Licensing Standards for Medical Aides Handbook".
  6. Ensures drug room security, restocks facility medications, and maintains pharmaceutical equipment.
  7. Enters medication compliance data into the pharmacy computer system.
  8. Participates in in-service orientation and continuing education; completes 40 hours annually to meet ACA standards.
  9. Adheres to internal controls and reporting structures.
  10. Performs related duties as required.
EQUIPMENT:

Standard patient care supplies, equipment, and mechanical devices.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Located within a prison, jail, or juvenile detention center. Security clearance and pre-employment drug testing are required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Current Texas Certified Medication Aide permit.

This is a non-benefit eligible, hourly position limited to a maximum of 19 hours per week.
