Job description

Certified Medication Aide - Full Time - Evening Shift or Night Shift

Do you have HEART? In this role, you will be responsible for the safe administration of all prescribed medications and treatments as listed on the Medication Administration Record (MAR) and Treatment Administration Record (TAR). You will provide personal care and general nursing care to residents as needed or assigned, ensuring the delivery of care and services to all residents, including Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), room cleanliness, scheduled activities, dining services, and individual service plan needs of each assigned resident.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Supervising self-administered medication for the Memory Care Department in compliance with Federal & State regulations and Senior Lifestyle Corporation guidelines, as directed by the LPN/LVN/RN and/or the Director of Health & Wellness.
  2. Counting and signing all narcotics on an approved form with authorized personnel before accepting medication keys. Contact a supervisor immediately with discrepancies.
  3. Ordering all necessary medication and treatments from the pharmacy or notifying responsible parties when supplies are below 7 days.
  4. Notifying the supervisor when supplies are less than 2 days and medication has not been received.
  5. Receiving and verifying all medication received against pharmacy labels and MARs, and reporting discrepancies to the pharmacy and DH&W.
  6. Storing all medications properly, with lotions, ointments, and liquids stored separately from oral medications.
  7. Dating all appropriate vials or bottles at initial opening and following pharmacy protocols on usage duration.
  8. Conducting weekly inspections of all medications to remove expired medications.
  9. Verifying current MARs against new MARs at changeover times and reporting discrepancies to the supervisor.
  10. Removing discontinued medications from the med cart and handing them to the supervisor.

Additional duties include:

  1. Providing personal care to residents, including bathing, skin care, oral hygiene, grooming, dressing, incontinence care, and eating.
  2. Providing general nursing care such as taking vital signs, temperatures, blood pressure, and weights.
  3. Documenting information in daily logs and notifying supervisors of concerns.
  4. Assisting residents with needs and answering calls as assigned.
  5. Cleaning and restocking all medicine carts daily and performing weekly deep cleaning.
  6. Attending staff training and in-service sessions.
  7. Maintaining accurate medical records, including preparing charts for new admissions and readmissions, ensuring completeness within 48 hours as per policies and regulations.

Qualifications include:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, or 1-3 months related experience/training, or an equivalent combination.
  • At least 1 month of experience, preferably in senior living.
  • Current Medication Technician certification, depending on state regulations.
  • Proficiency in English for communication and emergency response.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
