Job summary

The Wesley is seeking a Certified Medication Aide to administer medications and support residents according to the care plan. Position is full-time, day shift, located in Hutchinson, KS.

You will document administrations, monitor residents, and collaborate with nurses and CNAs to ensure dignity and safety in daily care. Excellent teamwork and communication are essential.

Qualifications

Medication Administration Responsibilities

• Prepare and administer oral/topical medications as ordered by the physician and as directed by the plan of care.
• Document administration of medication on the Medication Record as outlined in the policies and procedures. Document outcome of giving PRN medications.
• Notify the Licensed Nurses of stop orders, stock supply needs, drugs needing to be destroyed and medication errors.
• Assist Licensed Nurse with removal of discontinued meds from medication cart.
• Count controlled medications with a Licensed Nurse.

Resident Care Responsibilities

• Treat all residents with dignity and respect, including those with disruptive behaviors and insure resident rights are maintained at all times.
• Assist with implementing resident's plan of care and assist with interpreting plan of care to CNAs. Provide resident with opportunities for independence and choice consistent with their care plan. Set example of quality nursing care for CNAs on the team.
• Some shift assignments will require the CMA to be responsible for passing the majority of the medications to assigned residents.
• Support and foster good relationships with residents, families and visitors.
• Answer call lights promptly.
• Complete documentation of tasks performed and other documentation according to The Wesley's policy/procedures, including vital signs, meal percentages, weights and other documentation as needed.
• Assist residents with transfers, promote ambulation and exercise, transport residents as needed and as designated on resident Plan of Care using gait belts, proper transfer techniques, and lifts per facility Policy and Procedures.
• Make beds and change bedding as needed for resident comfort/hygiene.
• Meet residents nutritional needs by assisting with meal set-up as each resident requires and provide assistance with eating as needed; responsible for distribute and assist residents with snacks.
• Report any behavioral or physical changes in residents' condition, problems, concerns, grievances with residents and/or families/responsible parties to the Charge Nurse or administrative personnel.
• Provide personal care for the residents in private and in a calm, friendly manner.
• Check residents routinely to ensure all needs are met in a timely manner.
• Maintain confidentiality of resident information.
• Perform treatments and document them in the nurse’s notes, including observations and progress.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in plan of care.

Qualifications

• Must have current CMA certification in accordance with the laws of the state of Kansas.
• Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
• Must be capable of understanding and following oral and written instructions.
• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Keep CMA certificate current by attending 10 hours of prescribed continuing education every two years.
• Previous experience in geriatric care desired.
• Ability to communicate with team members and residents.
• Positive attitude toward the ill and the elderly.
• Able to cope with the mental and emotional stress related to the position.
