Job description

Correctional Managed Care - Patient Care Technician

The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.

Job Summary:

Performs technical duties in patient care and participates in the general health care of patients by assisting with cleanliness, grooming, rest, activity, nourishment, and medication distribution. Assists professional staff in maintaining a safe therapeutic environment.

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Collects, reports, and documents data such as vital signs, height and weight, intake and output, pulse oximetry, and specimen collection.
  2. Assists with patient activities and care as assigned by the charge nurse/designee, following the patient's plan of care.
  3. Provides for patient's personal hygiene; assists with wound care, feeding, ambulation, positioning, and turning patients with altered mobility.
  4. Maintains a safe and comfortable environment; manages pharmacy and nursing medications and supplies.
  5. Distributes and documents medications in both general population and administrative segregation, following Title 40, Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 95 standards.
  6. Ensures drug room security, restocks medications, and maintains pharmaceutical equipment.
  7. Enters medication compliance data into the pharmacy computer system.
  8. Participates in orientation and continuing education, obtaining 40 hours annually to meet ACA standards.
  9. Adheres to internal controls and reporting structures.
  10. Performs related duties as required.
Equipment:

Standard patient care supplies, equipment, and mechanical devices.

Work Environment:

Located within a prison, jail, or juvenile detention center. Security clearance and pre-employment drug testing are required.

Required Education/Experience:

High school diploma or GED; current Texas Certified Medication Aide permit. Salary based on relevant experience.
