POSITION: Certified Medication Aide (CMA)
TITLE OF IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Health and Wellbeing Director
DEPARTMENT: Resident Care
STATUS: Non-Exempt / Hourly
SUMMARY
This position administers prescribed medications and treatments under the direct supervision of the Health and Wellbeing Director. In addition, this position will provide personal care service to the residents and perform related tasks at the community in accordance with the plan of care assigned by the Health and Wellbeing Director.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED
- Successful completion of a state approved nursing assistant training program and a state approved trained medication assistant program
- Good standing on the Georgia Certified Medication Aide Registry with no record of being terminated for cause relating to the performance of medication aide tasks
- Current certification in medication administration with the ability to submit written competency test and skills check-off list prior to assuming position
- Must successfully clear a background check, TB skin test or x-ray, and health screening
- Current CPR certification
- Current certificate of training for successful completion of the five (5) hour initial fire safety training provided by the Rules and Regulations of the Georgia Safety Fire Commissioner
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer physician ordered medication to residents and maintain related medical records under the supervision of the Health and Wellbeing Director
- Verify identity of residents receiving medication and record name of drug, dosage, route, and time of administration on specified forms of records
- Present medication to residents and observe ingestion or other application, or administer medication using specified procedures
- Take vital signs or observe residents to detect responses to specified types of medication and prepare reports or notify designated personnel of unexpected reactions
- Document reasons prescribed drugs are not administered
- Adhere to medication administration policy
- Receive supply of ordered medications and apportion, mix, or assemble drugs for administration to residents
- Record and restock medication inventory
- Maintain Georgia state CMA requirements for assisted living communities
- Assist residents with personal care tasks such as bathing, grooming, and mobility
- Monitor and record temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure as directed
- Maintain accurate and complete records of care provided and document observations appropriately
- Provide personal care to residents in a compassionate manner consistent with the Orchard philosophy
- Consult and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and others involved in the resident's care
- Participate in safety programs and maintain compliance with all state and federal regulations
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
- Lifting: More than 25 lbs routinely; More than 50 lbs occasionally
- Sitting: 1 - 3 hours/day; Standing: 4 - 5 hours/day; Walking: 2 - 4 hours/day
- Working under pressure: 3 - 4 hours/day; Use of keyboard/computer: 1 - 2 hours/day
Cognitive or Mental Requirements
- Critical thinking, reading, writing, and mathematics
- Clear verbal articulation of the English language
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Indoors with possible exposure to communicable diseases and medical equipment
