Job Description
- Accurately and safely prepare and document oral and topical medications commonly used in this facility, as ordered by the attending physician.
- Ensure all administered medications are properly labeled.
- Measure, record, and report residents' vital signs accurately.
- Observe and verify medication ingestion or application as directed; document any refusals and reasons.
- Record medication orders in the resident’s clinical record, including type, route, dosage, frequency, and strength.
- Understand and use common medical abbreviations, symbols, and terms related to medication administration.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Specific Requirements
- Minimum of one (1) year of certified medication aide experience in long-term care.
- Licensed Certified Medication Aide with successful completion of a state-approved training program and examinations, as per state laws.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care to residents.
- Supportive team member, contributing positively to teamwork and the team concept.
- Ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
- Effective tactful communication with personnel, residents, families, visitors, agencies, and the public.
- Willingness to work harmoniously with other staff members.
- Meet all state health requirements.
- Clear criminal background check, in good standing with the Texas Misconduct Registry, and not listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities.
- Maintain a current Certified Med-Aide License.
