Job summary

Cypress Pointe Health and Wellness in Houston seeks a Certified Medication Aide to support residents with accurate medications ordered by physicians, following nursing standards and state guidelines.

The CMA will work full-time, participate in community education, observe infection control, and perform duties of a CNA as assigned while maintaining meticulous medication administration records.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Certified Medication Aide in the State of Texas.
• CPR certification is preferred.
• Reliable transportation is required.

Responsibilities

• Obtain report from licensed nurse/CMA being relieved and record sufficient information related to medication administration.
• Administer medications to residents accurately and timely (correct resident, medication, dose, route, and time).
• Observe residents for drug effectiveness and adverse effects; report to the licensed nurse.
• Document resident care related to medication administration and monitoring; notify the licensed nurse of any changes or adverse effects.
• Notify licensed nurse of observed changes in residents’ conditions, medication errors, or unavailable medications.
• Perform duties of Certified Nurse Aide as assigned.
• Follow care plans for medication administration based on residents’ needs and assessments.
• Participate in community education programs.
• Report observed changes in residents’ conditions promptly to the licensed nurse.
• Respond to residents’ calls for assistance promptly.

The Job:

The CMA willsupport the community by ensuring residents are well cared for and receive accurate medications as ordered by the physician/physician extender in accordance with established nursing standards, standards of medication aide practices, state and federal requirements, and guidelines of the community related to medication administration.

Responsibilities

• Obtain report from licensed nurse/CMA being relieved and recordsufficientinformation related to medication administration to implement accurate changes to medication orders.
• Administer medications to residents in an accurate, timely manner to include, but not limited to, correct resident/correct medication/correct dose/correct route/correct time.
• Observe residents for effectiveness of drug therapy and occurrence of adverse effects. Report immediately to licensed nurse.
• Document resident cares related to medication administration, related monitoring, and report to the licensed nurse any occurrence of observed adverse effects/change in resident's condition.
• Notify licensed nurse of observed changes in residents’ conditions, medication errors, medication not available, and any otherobservations.
• Perform duties of Certified Nurse Aide as assigned.
• Follow comprehensive care plans related to medication administration based on each resident’s needs and his/her comprehensive assessment as assigned.
• Participate in Community education programs.
• Promptly report observed changes in residents’ conditions to the licensed nurse.
• Respond to residents’ call for assistance promptly.
• Verify accuracy of narcotic count; check emergency kit and exchange keys.
• Obtain in-service hours required.
• Observe infection control procedures.
• Perform other related duties as directed by his/her supervisor.
• Store medications accurately and appropriately, monitor drug expiration dates and follow process for destruction.

Must-Haves for Role

• High School Diploma or equivalent
