Job Description
- Responsible for supervising the self-administration of medication in the Assisted Living Department, ensuring compliance with Federal & State regulations and Senior Lifestyle guidelines, as directed by the LPN/LVN/RN and/or the Assisted Living Director/Health and Wellness Director.
- Count and sign all narcotics on an approved form with authorized personnel before accepting medication keys. Report discrepancies immediately to a supervisor.
- Order necessary medications and treatments from the pharmacy or notify the responsible party when supplies are below 7 days.
- Notify a supervisor when supplies are less than 2 days and medication has not been received.
- Receive and verify all medication shipments against pharmacy labels and MARs. Report discrepancies to the pharmacy and DH&W.
- Ensure proper storage of all medications, keeping lotions, ointments, and liquids separate from oral medications.
- Date all vials or bottles upon initial opening and follow pharmacy protocols regarding usage duration.
- Conduct weekly inspections of medications to remove expired items.
- Compare current MARs with new MARs during changeovers and report any discrepancies to the supervisor.
- Remove discontinued medications from the med cart and hand them to the supervisor.
- Provide personal care to residents, including bathing, skin care, oral hygiene, grooming, dressing, incontinence care, and eating.
- Provide general nursing care, such as taking vital signs, temperatures, blood pressure, and weights.
- Document relevant information in the daily log and report concerns to the supervisor.
- Assist residents with calls and needs as assigned.
- Clean and restock all medicine carts daily and perform deep cleaning weekly.
- Attend staff training and in-service sessions.
- Maintain accurate medical records, including preparing charts for new admissions and readmissions, ensuring completion within 48 hours per policies and regulations.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED, or 1-3 months related experience or training, or equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum of 1 month of experience, preferably in senior living.
- Current Medication Technician certification, as required by state regulations.
- Proficiency in English for communication and emergency response.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
