Job description

Job Responsibilities
  1. Supervise self-administered medication in the Assisted Living Department, ensuring compliance with Federal & State regulations and Senior Lifestyle guidelines, under the direction of the LPN/LVN/RN or the Assisted Living/Health and Wellness Director.
  2. Count and sign all narcotics on an approved form with authorized personnel before accepting medication keys. Report discrepancies immediately to a supervisor.
  3. Order medications and treatments from the pharmacy or notify responsible parties when supplies are below 7 days.
  4. Notify a supervisor when supplies are less than 2 days and medications have not been received.
  5. Receive and verify all medications against pharmacy labels and MARs, reporting discrepancies to the pharmacy and DH&W.
  6. Ensure proper storage of medications, keeping lotions, ointments, and liquids separate from oral medications.
  7. Date all vials or bottles upon initial opening, following pharmacy protocols for usage duration.
  8. Conduct weekly inspections to remove expired medications.
  9. Compare current MARs with new MARs during changeovers and report discrepancies to a supervisor.
  10. Remove discontinued medications from the med cart and hand them to a supervisor.
  11. Provide personal care to residents, including bathing, skin care, oral hygiene, grooming, dressing, incontinence care, and eating.
  12. Administer general nursing care such as vital signs, temperatures, blood pressure, and weights.
  13. Document all relevant information in the daily log and notify a supervisor of any concerns.
  14. Assist residents with calls and needs as assigned.
  15. Clean all medicine carts daily at the end of shifts and restock as needed.
  16. Perform weekly deep cleaning of all medication carts.
  17. Participate in staff training and in-service sessions.
  18. Maintain accurate records, including preparing medical charts for new admissions and readmissions, ensuring completeness within 48 hours per policies and regulations.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, or 1-3 months related experience/training, or an equivalent combination.
  • Minimum 1 month of experience, preferably in Senior Living.
  • Current Medication Technician certification as per state regulations.
  • Proficiency in English for communication and emergency response.
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
