We are currently looking for a full-time Certified Medication Aide (CMA) to work within our Skilled Nursing and Rehab community at The Wesleyan. At The Wesleyan, Medication Aides or CMAs are the ones who directly administer prescribed oral medications for those residents who require regular routine oral medications. An active CMA certification PLUS an active CNA certification in the state of Texas along with experience as a CNA or caregiver in an assisted living or memory care community and a servant-minded approach to caring for others is absolutely essential to your success as a Certified Medication Aide at The Wesleyan.

The shift schedule for this position is 2:00PM - 10:00PM
Essential Functions
- Adhere to the allowable and prohibited practices of a permit holder under the health and safety code.
- Pass medications according to physician orders.
- Notify charge nurse when medications need refilling.
- Maintain a clean and organized medication cart and medication room.
- May be required to work as Certified Nurse Aide when needed.
- Conduct resident rounds as assigned with oncoming or outgoing shift.
- Ensure residents have their call lights in reach and answer call lights promptly.
- Be responsible for residents under your supervision, identify resident problems and report them immediately to a licensed nurse.
- Report changes in resident condition within the shift they occur to charge nurse or nurse supervisor including but not limited to any unusual symptoms (temperature, rash, etc.), any accidents or incidents (falls, etc.).
- Deliver direct care to residents, providing rehabilitative care when directed and necessary and render care in accordance with the Nursing Care Plan.
- Supervise and assist residents with prescribed meals as needed and feed residents who cannot feed themselves.
- Must be able to deal with possible agitated and confused residents that at times can become physically aggressive.
- Listen to resident and family complaints and report to charge nurse.
- Identify safety hazards and emergency situations and initiate corrective action.
- Consistently work cooperatively with residents, nurses, other nursing assistants, physicians, nurse practitioners, families, administration, consultant personnel and ancillary service providers.
- Complete other tasks and job duties as directed by the Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, and/or the building Administrator.
Qualifications
- Must have completed Medication Aide Training Program and passed the examination to obtain a CMA permit.
- Must possess current Nurse Aide Certificate from Texas Department of Health and must keep Certificate current.
- Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm and be able to handle residents based on whatever maturity and cognitive level they are currently functioning.
- Must have the ability to work despite frequent interruptions. Must be able to read and write English with clarity sufficient to follow instructions and identify materials from their labels and understand their directions for use.
- Must be able to take directions and supervision, follow directions and to work on a team providing care and general functions of a nursing unit.
- Must have a service-minded approach to all aspects of the job.
- A passion for working within a senior living community and a skilled nursing and rehabilitation program is a must!
