The Certified Medication Aide administers prescribed drugs to residents in accordance with company standards and federal, state, and local regulations.

Essential Activities and Tasks

  1. Care Management and Service Delivery - 50%
  • Dispenses oral, inhalation, and topical medications to patients under direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Observes patients for drug reactions and reports any problems to the nurses.
  • Performs tasks associated with medication administration, including reporting patient vital signs and the need for PRN medication to the Charge Nurse, and receives permission to give medication after assessment.
  • Assists the Charge Nurse in providing care to clients, including observation and reporting of needs.
  • Creates a warm, personal, and calm environment throughout the unit.
  1. Operations Management - 25%
  • Stocks the medication cart and reports to the nurse when medications need to be ordered.
  • Ensures CNAs conduct frequent rounds and answer call lights promptly, meeting residents' needs.
  • Checks rooms for medications and unauthorized food, reporting findings to the Charge Nurse.
  • Maintains resident rooms, work areas, and equipment in a clean, sanitary, and safe manner, following infection control standards and reporting hazards immediately.
  • Attends care conferences and departmental meetings, and participates in in-service training.
  • Shares observations and insights to improve departmental quality and efficiency.
  1. Administration and Reporting - 25%
  • Records medication administration according to facility procedures.
  • Reports changes in residents' or patients' conditions to the Charge Nurse promptly.
  • Reports concerns and complaints from residents, patients, or families.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current unencumbered certification for Ohio as a Certified Medication Aide required.

Experience

  • One year of healthcare industry experience required.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Working Conditions and Special Requirements

  • Sitting, standing, and walking up to 8 hours/day.
  • Lifting, transferring, pushing, or pulling residents/patients or equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Work on weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled.
  • Subject to falls, burns, odors, cuts, and exposure to infectious waste, diseases, and bloodborne pathogens.
