Job summary

University of Mississippi Medical Center seeks a Certified Medical Assistant (UA) to support internal medicine services. You will perform patient check-in, vital signs, chart preparation, and basic examinations, while handling venipuncture, specimen collection, and routine admin tasks.

The role requires CMA/CCMA or equivalent national certification and clinical competencies; you will work on-site at the Main Campus in Jackson, MS with a patient-centered team.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and medical terminology.
  • Ability to collect, record, and maintain data.
  • Record management and accounting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with direct patient care procedures and related tasks; checks in patients, obtains medical histories, takes vital signs, prepares charts, and assists with medical examinations.
  • Performs routine specialized procedures such as venipuncture, catheterization, and sterile dressing changes in accordance with established protocols; collects and prepares laboratory specimens for analysis.
  • Arranges examination room for instruments and equipment; sterilizes medical instruments; dispose of contaminated supplies; and maintains stocks of medications and medical supplies.
  • Educates and advises patients on specified medical issues within established guidelines.
  • Performs administrative duties such as answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing medical records, verifying demographic and insurance information, scheduling appointments, and performing billing and bookkeeping tasks.
  • Practices safety, environmental, and infection control methods.
