Project Position - Limited duration

Location: Washington Corrections Center for Women (WCCW)

Gig Harbor, WA

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00AM-4:30PM Sat/Sun off

The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to serve as a Certified Medical Assistant (MA) within the Health Services Division. This is a limited duration project position. The role is based at the Washington Corrections Center for Women (WCCW) in Gig Harbor, WA.

Role and Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant performs duties under the supervision of a healthcare provider, ensuring patient care is safe, effective, and within legal scope. Tasks include assisting in clinical and administrative functions, maintaining medical records, and supporting the medical department's operations at WCCW.

Location Details

The WCCW is a 62.6-acre facility near Gig Harbor, including living units, a health clinic, education and support facilities, and recreational areas.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with telehealth encounters, provide direct patient care (vitals, injections, labs, etc.), document clinical observations, and support clinic operations. Follow all safety, confidentiality, and procedural protocols.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience as a Medical Assistant in outpatient settings
  • Certification in Basic Life Support and First Aid from the American Heart Association
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Unrestricted Washington State Medical Assistant certification/license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Additional certifications (e.g., Phlebotomy, IV)
  • Ability to work 40+ hours/week and flexible scheduling
  • Strong communication, organizational, and de-escalation skills
