Phaxis is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant for a busy outpatient primary care practice in the South Charlotte area. The role combines clinical support with administrative duties to ensure an efficient patient experience.

The position is full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with occasional coverage at nearby offices. Responsibilities include rooming patients, taking histories and vitals, assisting with examinations, performing EKGs and venipuncture, processing orders, and

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assisting program.
  • Current Medical Assistant certification.
  • Current BLS certification (AHA or equivalent).
  • Minimum 1 year MA experience or externship.
  • Experience with EKGs, vital signs, venipuncture, injections.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients, obtain histories and vitals; document in EHR.
  • Assist providers with examinations and minor procedures.
  • Administer injections and non-IV meds.
  • Perform EKGs, venipunctures, stick tests and CLIA-waived testing.
  • Prepare trays, dressings, and suture removals.
  • Handle patient calls, portal messages, and refills.
  • Complete prior authorizations and follow provider orders.
  • Schedule referrals and tests; coordinate follow-ups.
  • Monitor EHR inboxes and lab results.
  • Obtain records and imaging reports as needed.
  • Prepare exam rooms and maintain supplies; log safety checks.

Job description

Certified Medical Assistant - Primary Care

A primary care practice in the South Charlotte area is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support in a busy outpatient setting. This position works closely with physicians and advanced practice providers to deliver a positive, efficient patient experience.

Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Location: South Charlotte area; occasional coverage at nearby offices may be required

Responsibilities
  • Room patients, obtain medical histories and vital signs, complete screenings, and document information in the EHR
  • Assist providers with examinations and minor office procedures
  • Administer injections and approved non-IV medications
  • Perform EKGs, venipunctures, capillary sticks, specimen collection, and CLIA-waived testing
  • Prepare procedure trays and assist with dressings and suture removal
  • Respond to patient calls, portal messages, pharmacy requests, and medication refills
  • Complete medication prior authorizations and follow up on provider orders
  • Schedule referrals, diagnostic testing, and follow-up appointments
  • Monitor assigned EHR inboxes and reconcile laboratory results
  • Obtain medical records, laboratory results, imaging reports, and referral documentation
  • Prepare exam rooms, sterilize instruments, maintain supplies, and complete required safety logs
  • Support efficient patient flow and provide coverage at nearby office locations as needed
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited Medical Assisting program
  • Current Medical Assistant certification
  • Current American Heart Association or client BLS certification
  • At least one year of recent Medical Assistant experience or a completed medical-office externship
  • Experience with EKGs, vital signs, venipuncture, capillary sticks, and injections
  • Comfortable using an electronic health record system
  • Strong communication, organization, and patient-service skills

Required health documentation includes a TB screening and Hepatitis B and influenza vaccination records or applicable declination forms.

Candidates must be able to remain active throughout the workday, use a computer for extended periods, and lift or support up to 35 pounds.
