Job Summary:
Participates with the Health Care Team in delivering quality, customer-focused health care to patients, reflecting Kaiser Permanente's mission, vision, and values. Provides clinical and administrative support to clinicians and other health care team members to offer various health care services. Clinical duties involve direct (in person) and indirect (via phone or online) patient care activities requiring clinical knowledge and skills. The Medical Assistant (MA) is expected to have observational, clinical, critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to meet patient needs and contribute to a positive care experience and work environment. Works under the supervision of clinicians and the general direction of the manager/supervisor.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Clinical Tasks: Perform patient care tasks competently, accurately, and according to protocols, policies, and standards. Prepare patients for visits, collect subjective and objective data, utilize tools to identify care gaps, recognize signs of illnesses, prepare patients for exams, and document all data in KP HealthConnect and other systems.
- Clinical Procedures: Perform diagnostic tests, therapies, and procedures within scope, maintaining proficiency. Tasks include screening tests, diagnostic tests, medication administration, wound care, application of orthopedic devices, assisting in minor surgeries and medical procedures, collecting lab specimens, irrigations, and equipment setup and sterilization.
- Practice Management Activities: Manage patient schedules, respond to messages, facilitate follow-up duties, process prescriptions, schedule tests and procedures, and conduct population health outreach activities, all in accordance with protocols.
- Teamwork, Leadership, and Professional Development: Start workflow, demonstrate flexibility, assist with onboarding, report hazards, seek assistance when needed, and complete competency assessments and training to maintain skills.
