The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting in providing clinical care to selected patients under the supervision of a professional nurse or licensed medical practitioner, as well as providing clerical office assistance.

This Pediatric CMA position is for the Children's Hospital Float Pool, supporting 14 pediatric subspecialty practices and traveling to HUMC Campus-Hackensack, Polifly-Hackensack, and From Road-Paramus. Office hours vary based on the department, typically 8:30am-5:00pm, but may also be 8:00am-4:30pm or 9:00am-5:30pm.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Certified Medical Assistant at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

• Preparing exam rooms, treatment rooms, supplies, and instruments.
• Preparing patients for physician visits and examinations, assisting as directed.
• Taking patients' vital signs and recording them in the medical chart.
• Understanding the proper function and care of special equipment.
• Performing EKG, PFT, Audiometry, Titmus Test, and other lab tests as indicated after completing performance evaluation checklists.
• Maintaining records by completing patient records as directed; filing records and reports.
• Assisting with collections and billing procedures as needed.
• Using computer software to maintain office systems.
• Ensuring confidentiality of patient information.
• Modifying and delivering care tailored to the needs of the patient population served, considering age, culture, language, hearing, and visual impairments, etc. This includes effective communication with patients, parents, and caregivers at their level.
• Performing other duties and projects as assigned.
• Adhering to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
• Lifting a minimum of 5 lbs., pushing and pulling a minimum of 5 lbs., and standing for at least 1 hour daily.

Qualifications

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• High School diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED).
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to interact effectively and supportively with diverse populations.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of computerized processes and data entry procedures.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

• Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Registered Medical Assistant, National Certified Medical Assistant, Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant, or Registered Clinical Medical Assistant Specialist.
• AHA Basic Health Care Life Support (BLS) Certification.
