Job summary

Pediatric Healthcare Associates is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our pediatric team. The MA will support clinicians, prepare patients, and complete prior authorizations and referrals as needed.

We value accuracy, teamwork, and a strong work ethic. Full-time or part-time roles are available; on-site schedule includes day/evening shifts with potential weekend coverage.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must be certified Medical Assistant with CT certification in good standing.
• Experience in pediatrics is preferred.
• Computer skills including MS Office and EHR familiarity are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complete medication prior authorizations for patients.
• Complete medical prior authorizations for procedures.
• Complete referrals to specialists (e.g., Yale, CCMC).
• Maintain daily lab controls and fridge/freezer temps.
• Check oxygen tanks weekly and ensure safety.
• Prepare patients for examinations with vitals and intake notes.
• Assist with scheduling and follow-up tests as needed.
• Comply with HIPAA and OSHA regulations.
• Answer phones and support clinical area as needed.
• Ensure clean and orderly work areas.

Pediatric Healthcare Associates is an independent pediatric group providing patient-centered, evidence-based, quality care for our patients, from infancy through young adulthood, through compassion, collaboration, and open communication with their families and our community.

Pediatric Healthcare Associates is seeking full-time or part-time Medical Assistants (MA) to join our team. We’re looking for someone who has demonstrated excellent patient and family-centered care, is a team player, and has a strong work ethic. The Medical Assistant (MA) is primarily responsible for providing safe, evidence-based care to patients from infancy through young adulthood, as well as other duties as assigned.

This full-time position requires working 30 to 37.5 hours per week (day shifts, evenings, and possible weekends and holidays as needed – shift differentials are offered for working evenings, weekends, and holidays).

Overall Responsibility

Integral part of the clinical team primarily responsible for providing safe, evidence-based care for our patients, exceptional support, and the ability to anticipate the needs of both the clinicians and the patients.

Essential Skills & Abilities

• Complete medication prior authorizations
• Complete medical prior authorizations for procedures (i.e. CAT scan, MRI, etc.)
• Complete referrals to specialists (i.e. Yale, CCMC, etc.)
• Maintain and record daily lab controls and refrigerator/ freezer temps.
• Check oxygen tanks weekly.
• Develops, implements, and maintains control reports for quality assurance.
• Room patients & complete all intakes for patients.
• Intake acutes: document chief complaint, HPI, ROS, PFSH, allergies, medications & vitals (including but not limited to blood pressure, weight, height, etc.) in EHR and prepare patient prior to examination.
• Intakes physical: document chief complaint, vitals (including but not limited to blood pressure, weight, height, etc.), allergies and additional information as per provider, review chart for immunizations, blood work (hgb, cholesterol), hearing and vision and prepare patient prior to examination by the physician.
• Arrange appointments with specialists and follow up tests as needed.
• Process pre-certification requests for medicines as needed.
• Performs various in-office testing, such as vision, hearing, and others.
• Perform Spirometry.
• Store and handle vaccines appropriately per protocols.
• Complies with all HIPAA and OSHA regulations.
• Keep work areas clean and orderly.
• Help answer phones to clinical area.
• Complies with all PHA policies and procedures.
• Regular and prompt attendance is expected and required.
• All other duties as required or assigned.

Position Requirements

• High school degree or equivalent required.
• Must be certified Medical Assistant with a current certification in good standing in the State of Connecticut.
• Previous Medical Assistant experience (preferably in pediatrics) is preferred.
• Computer skills are required (working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is preferred).
• Knowledge of EHR software is preferred.
