Position Summary

Position Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant performs patient care under the direction of the physician and supervision of the lead nurse in an ambulatory care setting.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  • Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
  • Participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities.
  • Supports effective communication with patients and families.
  • Collaborates with administrative and operations staff.
  • Gathers patient data through interviews and observation.
  • Assists patients and families with preparation for examinations.
  • Assists the physician or APP during examinations and procedures.
  • Demonstrates competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
  • Provides routine treatments and administers approved medications.
  • Documents patient data, treatments, procedures, and education according to policies.
  • Acts as a liaison for scheduling and provides information for specialty testing or consultations.
  • Processes calls professionally using sound clinical judgment.
  • Enters medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under provider direction.
  • Ensures compliance with policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Practices safety and infection control standards.
  • Maintains regular, punctual attendance per policies and standards.
Other Related Functions
  • Provides age-appropriate care and assesses data accordingly.
  • Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance standards.
  • Uses supplies efficiently.
  • Assists with reception, scheduling, and discharge as needed.
Qualifications
Education/Training
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school or at least one year of relevant work experience.
Licensure/Certification
  • Current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification.
  • Current certification or registration from an approved agency (e.g., CCMA, CMA, CMAC, NCMA, NRCMA, NRCAMA, RMA) or equivalent; consideration on a case-by-case basis for other certifications.
