RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant for Orthopedics in River Edge, NJ. The role supports providers, maintains patient flow, and ensures a welcoming patient experience.

A typical day includes taking vital signs, assisting during exams, administering injections, documenting in EMR (Epic), scheduling, referrals, and patient education.

Requires CMA credential, BLS, and at least 6 months CMA experience; Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm, on-site at Barnabas Health Medical Group.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential (AAMA, AECA, AMCA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, NCMA, or NHA).
• BLS certification from American Heart Association is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for examinations by taking vital signs and documenting histories.
• Assist physicians during examinations and procedures.
• Administer injections, collect specimens, perform point-of-care testing within scope.
• Document patient information in the EMR (Epic) accurately.
• Coordinate patient flow and room preparation to maintain efficient schedules.
• Provide patient education on medications, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
• Schedule appointments and process referrals with the care team.

A typical day for a Certified Medical Assistant may include:

• Preparing patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs, documenting medical histories, and ensuring they feel comfortable and informed throughout their visit

• Performing clinical tasks such as administering injections, collecting specimens, conducting point-of-care testing, and completing other duties within the scope of practice
• Accurately documenting patient information, test results, and provider instructions within the electronic medical record to support continuity of care
• Coordinating patient flow by preparing exam rooms, maintaining supplies, and helping ensure appointments run efficiently
• Providing clear, compassionate education to patients regarding medications, treatment plans, follow-up appointments, and preventive care

• This position offers a consistent Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00am - 4:30pm, allowing you to build strong patient relationships while maintaining a work-life balance.
• You must hold a current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential (AAMA, AECA, AMCA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, NCMA, or NHA) and a current American Heart Association BLS certification.
• A minimum of 6 months CMA experience is required and electronic medical record (EMR) systems, Epic, knowledge is preferred.
