Job description

Overview

This position is Sign-on Bonus eligible.

The Medical Assistant (MA) provides a full range of duties and support as part of the patient medical care team. Primary responsibilities include:

  1. Patient rooming and collecting vital signs
  2. Point of care testing
  3. Documentation in the electronic medical record (EHR)
  4. Maintaining patient flow and stocking exam rooms
  5. Assisting with procedures and treatments
  6. Communicating effectively and verifying report availability (lab, x-ray, procedures)
  7. Performing computer functions such as medication reconciliation, coding, order entry, and scheduling
  8. Assisting with patient education and communication for diverse patient groups

The MA works under the clinical direction of the physician and reports directly to the Office/Site Manager.

Qualifications

A. Education:

  1. High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution
  2. Medical Assisting diploma/certificate from a recognized program
  3. Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program with a valid GA license (LPN)
  4. Successful completion of a formal medical services training program of the U.S. Armed Forces
  5. In lieu of a diploma/certificate, 1-2 years of verifiable Medical Assisting work experience plus current certification

B. Certification/Licensure:

  1. Medical Assistant (MA) certification from a recognized certifying body is required upon hire or after a probationary period. The certification must be maintained throughout employment. Approved bodies include:
  • The American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) – Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
  • The American Medical Technologists (AMT) – Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
  • The National Center for Competency Testing – National Certified MA (NCMA)
  • The National Health Career Association – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
  • New graduates must obtain one of the above certifications within 90 days of hire and maintain it during employment.
