Job summary

Reading Hospital, part of Tower Health, is seeking a Medical Assistant (MA) to support providers with clerical and direct patient care duties in a busy outpatient setting.

The MA will greet patients, take histories, record vital signs, prepare exam rooms, assist during examinations, and help maintain accurate EMR documentation while ensuring patient comfort.

Candidates should graduate from a Medical Assistant program and hold current BLS certification and an approved MA credential.

Qualifications

• Must complete and maintain competencies and trainings for role.
• High School Diploma or GED or graduation from an approved Medical Assistant program.
• BLS certification required.
• Medical Assistant certification from recognized certifying bodies is required.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients, answer telephones, schedule appointments and update EMR.
• Room patients, take histories, record vital signs and assist with procedures.
• Explain treatments and prepare patients for examinations.
• Support provider and care team to maintain patient flow.

• Medical assistant (MA) is positioned within the workforce to gather, screen, communicate and act based on delegation from a provider, registered nurse or Licensed Practical nurse as per scope of practice.
• The MA performs a combination of clerical and direct patient care duties.
• Clerical responsibilities include greeting patients, answering telephones, scheduling appointments, and updating patients electronic medical record (EMR).
• Clinical responsibilities include rooming patients, taking medical histories, performing and recording vital signs, preparing exam room for procedures, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, facilitation of patient flow through the office, and assisting the Physician, Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant during examinations.

Medical Assistant Certification other than those listed requires THMG Leadership Approval.
