PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Floater will perform quality team-based patient care under the direct supervision of a clinician, supporting both clinical and administrative functions to promote health and wellness in a safe and friendly environment. The role includes assessing, maintaining chronic disease management, examining, and treating pediatric patients. The Laboratory Medical Assistant Floater is responsible for performing laboratory testing procedures and phlebotomy, including venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks. This employee will work across various offices, supporting either the MA role or dedicated Lab stations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Perform laboratory testing in Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Serology, and Spirometry.
- Report laboratory results to healthcare clinicians, alerting them of critical or out-of-range values and documenting these reports.
- Perform phlebotomy, including venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks.
- Prepare specimens for reference lab send-outs, including labeling, resulting, and billing information.
- Perform and document quality control activities, including instrument maintenance.
- Record patient vitals such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rate; notify clinicians of abnormal findings.
- Interview patients appropriately based on age and needs, documenting and updating medical records with relevant information.
- Obtain necessary medical records, consultation notes, discharge records, and diagnostic results for review and follow-up.
- Prepare patients for clinician examinations, ensuring orders are performed and documented accurately.
- Assist clinicians with age-appropriate screenings, electrocardiograms, suturing, ear lavages, catheterizations, wound care, and other procedures under supervision.
- Perform vaccine and medication reconciliation, provide education, and document administration details.
- Ensure proper patient identification and process validation, administer vaccines and medications correctly, and monitor post-administration.
- Handle follow-up tasks such as answering calls, handling correspondence, refilling prescriptions, obtaining authorizations, and assisting with patient forms and referrals.
- Travel, float, and adapt to flexible location schedules as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
At least 1 year of healthcare experience required.
Licensure / Certification
MA Diploma / Certification required, or at least 3 years of MA experience in lieu of certification. Active BLS certification required. Valid driver’s license required.
