Position Summary

One of the region’s largest orthopedic and sports medicine providers, Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute’s world-class team of orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine physicians specialize in conditions and injuries of the spine, hand, upper extremities, foot, ankle and lower extremities, as well as joint replacement, concussions, interventional pain management, bone health, and orthopedic trauma. The institute’s Downtown Complex consolidates orthopedic and spine care and features a 75-room orthopedic specialty hospital, 10 advanced OR suites, and a research center with a bio skills lab and 3D printer. Position Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant performs patient care under the physician's direction and supervision of the lead nurse in an ambulatory care setting.

Responsibilities
  1. Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
  2. Participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome improvements.
  3. Supports professional communication with patients and families.
  4. Collaborates with administrative and operations staff.
  5. Gathers patient data via interview and observation.
  6. Prepares patients and families for examinations.
  7. Assists physicians during examinations and procedures.
  8. Demonstrates competency in defined tasks and skills.
  9. Provides routine treatments and administers approved medications.
  10. Documents patient data, treatments, procedures, and education per policies.
  11. Acts as a liaison for scheduling and specialty testing or consultations.
  12. Handles calls professionally with sound clinical judgment.
  13. Ensures compliance with policies, procedures, and standards.
  14. Practices safety and infection control standards.
  15. Maintains punctual attendance per policies and standards.
  16. Adheres to all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Education/Training
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school or at least one year of relevant work experience.
Licensure/Certification
  • Current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification.
  • Current certification or registration from one of the recognized agencies (list provided), or equivalent. Consideration given to other certifications on a case-by-case basis.
