Job Overview:

New Margaret Hague Women's Health is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to perform routine clinical and clerical tasks under the direction of a physician or other health practitioner. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs, medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, processing prescription refills, and assisting with minor procedures as directed by a physician or health practitioner. The CMA acts as a practice ambassador, contributing to overall patient experience, safety, and privacy.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 6 months of relevant experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred:

  • Phlebotomy and EKG
  • Knowledge of electronic medical record (EMR) systems

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • BLS Certification approved by the American Heart Association
  • Medical Assistant Certification: NHA, NCCT, AMT, AAMA, NCMA, AMCA, AECA, or NAHP

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shift working, 8:30am - 5:00pm
  • Monday - Friday
  • Full-Time

Essential Functions:

  • Assist physician in providing primary healthcare and management of patient care
  • Is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments and medical errors
  • Assists with both front office and back office duties
  • Greets patients, update demographics, verifies insurance, and collects payments as necessary
  • Answers phones and schedules patient appointments
  • Assists physicians with patient treatment and minor surgeries
  • Communicate with insurance carriers to obtain authorizations for procedures and pharmaceuticals
  • Handles patient requests for medical information, copies of medical records, refills, test results, etc
  • As instructed by the physician with signature, obtains patient release forms in accordance with patient confidentiality and medical record release policies
  • Schedule testing in or out of office
  • Call in patient prescriptions to pharmacies
  • Maintain inventory of medical and pharmaceutical supplies, order and stock as needed
  • Maintain drug cabinet
  • Maintains patient files, records and other information
  • Performs routine medical testing, i,e, blood testing, ekgs, urinalysis, rapid strep tests and drug screening, injections and vaccinations
  • Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments
  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment
  • Takes patients' brief history and vital signs
  • Telephone patient follow-up on their condition after an office visit as per the physicians instructions
  • Call patients or other physicians with results of exams and tests
  • Other duties as assigned
