JOB SUMMARY


UT Southwestern is seeking an experienced Oncology Infusion Certified Medical Office Assistant for their Richardson/Plano location; PRN position requiring a minimum of one (1) shift per week, 8 to 10 hours per shift, supporting Oncology Infusion patients. The ideal candidate is experienced in Oncology and Infusion Therapy specialties, self-motivated and able to handle patients in need of both clinical and psychosocial support during their visits; one (1) year of work experience familiar with handling hazardous body fluids and the needs Oncology patients; confident with phlebotomy skills; taking vital signs, rooming patients, lab draws, point of care service, faxing and scanning, stocking and ordering supplies. This position works under the general supervision of physicians and/or nurses to provide clinical support to physicians and nurses in delivery of patient clinical care and administrative support.


Work Location: 3030 Waterview Parkway, Richardson, Texas 75080


Shift Requirement: PRN (as needed) Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 7:00pm, flexibility available; requires a minimum of one (1) shift per week, 8 to 10 hours per shift.



EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

    High School Diploma or equivalent



  • Experience
    1 year of patient care experience in a physician office practice or completion of Medical Assistant training



  • Licenses and Certifications


  1. (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) Upon Hire and

  2. Medical Assistant certification and maintenance of current certified status obtained through one of the following: Upon Hire

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Work requires good interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills.

  • Work requires contact with physicians, residents, fellows, allied health personnel, and other medical and non-medical office personnel to coordinate necessary information and to provide optimal level of patient care.

  • Work requires telephone skills when in contact with patients, referring physicians, and pharmaceutical representatives outside of university, vendors, and third party payees.

  • Work requires ability to stand for long periods of time and lift, push, and/or pull up to 50 lbs.

  • Work requires ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations.

  • Work requires ability to make occasional minor decisions.



JOB DUTIES



  • Takes, records, and reports patient vital signs using medical equipment; performs procedures of low complexity such as visual acuity, development and/or musculoskeletal screening, POC testing, phlebotomy, EKG testing, and other approved clinic specific diagnostic testing.

  • Escorts or transports patients to exam rooms or treatment rooms, or other areas as directed.
    Documents completion of patient care tasks in medical records, and reinforces education provided by the physician or nurse seeking assistance from the nurse or physician as appropriate.

  • Assists in care of patients by preparing exam rooms for patient care, facilitating use of diagnostic equipment, and ensuring availability of needed patient information, such as results of diagnostic exams and medical records.

  • Assumes responsibility for weekly autoclave temperature monitoring, POC testing QA, and monthly audit report on compliance as directed by clinic management.

  • Serves as preceptor and resource for newly-hired medical assistants and medical assistant externs, actively participating in their integration into the department.

  • May perform a variety of administrative/clerical duties, scheduling patient appointments, precertifying procedures, answering patient phones by collecting data to forward to the nurse for triage as directed.

  • Inspects equipment and facilities visually and physically to ensure patient safety and proper functioning.

  • May function as a clinic safety officer, verifying each employee's knowledge of fire safety and the evacuation plan for the work area as directed.

  • Confirms appropriate patient consent and authorization forms are signed for research and/or medical treatment.

  • Maintains current customer service, clinical, and technical skills by attending training programs and procedures. Participates in annual skills competency review.

  • Maintains adequate stock of supplies as required for work area.

  • May provide occasional working supervision to non-licensed medical and/or clerical office support personnel for clerical functions or other non-clinical activities.

  • Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: (a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; (b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; (c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or (d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
