Position Summary: Under direct supervision, assist physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in our busy medical oncology/hematology department. This is a full-time role requires working Monday - Friday from 10 AM to 6:30 PM.
Key Responsibilities:
Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment areas
Record patient data, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes
Prepare examination rooms, equipment, and clean instruments
Assist physicians and nurse practitioners with exams and procedures
Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection with high proficiency
Handle blood specimens, ensuring proper labeling and adherence to safety standards
Process laboratory specimens for collection or analysis
Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as delegated
Maintain exam/treatment room disinfection protocols
Manage patient calls, prescription requests, and appointment changes
Perform administrative duties such as typing, filing, faxing, and chart preparation
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Certificate from an accredited Medical Assistant program
0-3 years of experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification required
Current BCLS certification (required within 3 months of hire)
Proficient in blood draw techniques and comfortable with frequent blood collection
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety protocols
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced medical environment
Physical Demands:
Full range of body motion, including patient handling and lifting
Manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
Occasionally lift and carry items up to 40 lbs
Corrected vision and hearing to normal range
