The Certified Medical Assistant is a key role in the practice, creating a strong first impression for patients and ensuring they feel cared for. They prepare patients for the doctor’s evaluation and assist clinical providers with examinations by obtaining and documenting vital signs, past medical and social history, and updating electronic medical records (EMR).
Responsibilities
- Assist professional nursing staff with direct patient care.
- Prepare charts, take temperature, pulse, perform screenings, blood pressure, respiration and other duties as assigned.
- Travel between Sea Girt, Point Pleasant, Freehold, Manalapan, and Wall Township locations.
- Assist physicians by maintaining practice workflow, organizing exam rooms, maintaining and ordering supplies, screening patient requests and other duties such as blood draws and point‑of‑care testing as directed by the provider.
- Follow instructions closely and report observations and symptoms indicative of patient reactions to treatments and complaints.
- Ensure timely appointments and decreased wait‑times by managing scheduling of initial evaluations, follow‑up appointments, cancellations, and initiating appointment reminder calls professionally.
- Demonstrate effective oral, listening, and written communication skills that facilitate positive customer relationships and staff interaction.
- Prioritize duties and complete them accurately and in a timely fashion.
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate responsible judgment; update knowledge, refer problems through appropriate channels, and observe policies and procedures.
- Obtain and enter patient history, chief complaint, and update the medication list into the EMR.
- Maintain compliance with legal requirements, HIPAA, OSHA, and company policies.
- Answer phones, fax, file, greet patients, and perform other administrative tasks.
- Inventory supplies, place orders, verify receipt, sort, and store; restock exam/procedure rooms.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
- Perform other duties/tasks requested by providers, coordinators, and management in accordance with office procedures and policies.
- Enhance practice reputation by owning new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value.
- Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of similar experience in a medical office (minimum 6 months required).
- Familiarity with EKG, phlebotomy, and patient care.
- Certified or registered Medical Assistant; CPR certified.
- Experience with EHR/EMR systems, preferably Athena.
- Knowledge of pre‑authorizations and referrals.
- Strong communication skills: ability to clearly convey medical information to practitioners and the public.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
- Good interpersonal skills, sense of urgency, proactive, ownership of work.
- Dependable with strong work ethic and high personal integrity.

Compensation range: $18.00/hour–$26.00/hour, based on level, experience, knowledge, skills, and location.
