Job Responsibilities
- Obtains and documents, using the rooming tool in the electronic medical record, the patient's reason for visit, weight, vital signs, visit screening information, medication review, and pertinent information for the provider.
- Sets up examination and treatment rooms between cases.
- Assists patients as needed to prepare for visits with providers, ensuring safety and privacy.
- Provides direct patient care as directed by the provider, based on competency and clinic needs, including performing EKGs, wound dressings, and supporting minor surgical procedures and examinations.
- Prepares and administers medications according to policy and procedure after validating knowledge and demonstrating competency; may not administer intravenous medications.
- Completes patient tests and treatments per provider’s orders, following policies and procedures after validation of knowledge and competency.
- Collects and prepares laboratory specimens, completing associated paperwork accurately to expedite studies.
- Performs phlebotomy and assists with laboratory functions related to testing, reporting, and quality assurance, as overseen by the laboratory.
- Performs receptionist and clerical duties to support patient care, including managing reports in medical records.
- Documents all patient interactions thoroughly to create accurate medical records.
- Uses the electronic medical record and scheduling system as designated.
- Facilitates timely patient appointments, completes referrals and pre-authorizations as needed.
- Collects co-payments.
- Assists with orientation of new personnel under the direction of the provider or site lead.
- Manages ongoing patient communication, prioritizing messages, responding to questions, and ensuring timely provider response.
- Reinforces patient education as directed by the provider to support understanding of instructions.
- May inventory medical/surgical supplies and pharmaceuticals, ensuring supply levels, verifying expiration dates, and documenting utilization.
- May access and transport non-controlled medications as necessary.
- Prepares and cleans instruments, following sterilization and disinfection protocols.
- Prepares examination rooms between patients, adhering to infection prevention protocols.
- Follows hand hygiene and infection prevention precautions; inspects diagnostic equipment for proper operation and maintenance needs.
- Participates actively in patient safety and quality improvement programs.
