Certified Medical Assistant – Bon Secours Urgent Care – Towne Center

The Certified Medical Assistant in Urgent Care is a multi-skilled clinical professional providing indirect and/or direct patient care within the scope of practice and standards of excellence. Under the provider's direction, the Medical Assistant contributes to completing the patient's chief complaint, documents needs, participates in care planning, and administers medications within scope and guidelines.

Essential Job Functions
  • Adhere to legal responsibilities within the Medical Assistant role.
  • Identify significant changes in patient condition and report to the provider.
  • Troubleshoot issues and escalate problems appropriately.
  • Demonstrate excellence in care interactions.
  • Maintain clinical and administrative skills per departmental guidelines.
  • Assist patients and providers, including virtual health visits.
  • Document accurately in electronic medical records.
  • Manage in-basket messages and perform front desk workflows as needed.
  • Follow up on orders, referrals, and collect co-pays.
  • Participate in ongoing training and other duties as assigned.
Licensing/Certification

Active Medical Assisting certification from recognized bodies is required. BLS certification (American Heart Association) is preferred upon hire and required prior to independent patient care.

Education

High School/GED is required. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program is preferred.

Work Experience

Externship or clinical training preferred; 1 year of recent Medical Assisting experience is also preferred.

Skills
  • Record patient information accurately.
  • Interview patients, measure vital signs.
  • Prepare/administer medications.
  • Collect and log laboratory specimens.
  • Explain treatments and instructions to patients.
  • Maintain sterile instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
  • Perform routine lab tests.
  • Perform office duties, including answering phones and completing insurance forms.
  • Complete skills or competency checklists.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, multitasking ability, and proficiency with office equipment.
