Position: Certified Medical Assistant – Mercy Health Urgent Care – South Toledo

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides multi-skilled clinical support, delivering direct and indirect patient care under the provider’s supervision, in accordance with standards of excellence and quality. Responsibilities include assisting with patient assessments, documenting needs, care planning, and administering medications within scope and guidelines.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Adhere to legal responsibilities within the Medical Assistant role.
  • Identify and report significant changes in patient condition.
  • Troubleshoot issues and escalate as needed.
  • Maintain high standards of care and professionalism.
  • Keep skills current according to departmental guidelines.
  • Assist patients and providers during examinations and virtual visits.
  • Accurately document in electronic medical records.
  • Manage communications in the electronic health record.
  • Perform front desk workflows as needed.
  • Follow up on orders, referrals, and collect co-pays.
  • Perform additional duties such as supply ordering and tracking referrals.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development.
Licensing/Certification:

Active Medical Assisting certification from recognized agencies is required. BLS certification is preferred upon hire and required prior to independent patient care.

Education:

High School/GED is required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program is preferred.

Work Experience:

Externship or clinical training preferred; 1 year of recent Medical Assisting experience is also preferred.

Skills:
  • Record and review patient medical histories and vital signs.
  • Administer medications and collect laboratory specimens.
  • Explain treatments and medications to patients.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of instruments and environment.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and assist with office duties.
  • Communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a high-volume setting.
