Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Certified Medical Assistant - Urgent Care provides clinical support by assisting with patient care, documentation, and administrative tasks under the provider’s supervision. Responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient needs, administering medications, and supporting virtual health visits.

Essential Job Functions
  • Adhere to legal responsibilities within the Medical Assistant role.
  • Identify and report significant changes in patient condition.
  • Troubleshoot issues and escalate problems appropriately.
  • Maintain standards of excellence in all interactions.
  • Keep clinical and administrative skills current.
  • Assist patients and providers during examinations and virtual visits.
  • Document accurately in electronic medical records.
  • Manage electronic health record messages and front desk workflows if needed.
  • Follow up on orders, referrals, and collect co-pays.
  • Perform other duties such as supply management and tracking tests.
  • Participate in ongoing training.
Licensing/Certification
  • Active Medical Assisting certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCRMA, NCMA, or NCCT).
  • BLS certification (preferred upon hire, required prior to independent patient care).
Education
  • High School/GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred (except South Carolina).
Work Experience
  • Externship or clinical training preferred.
  • One year of recent Medical Assisting experience preferred.
