Position: Certified Medical Assistant – Mercy Health Urgent Care – Frenchtown - Monroe, MI

The Certified Medical Assistant provides indirect and direct patient care within the scope of practice, contributing to patient assessments, documentation, planning, and administering medications under provider supervision, following standards and guidelines.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Adhere to legal responsibilities and requirements within the Medical Assistant role.
  • Identify significant changes in patient condition and report to the provider.
  • Troubleshoot issues and escalate problems appropriately.
  • Maintain high standards of care and professionalism.
  • Prepare patients and assist providers during examinations.
  • Travel to other facilities as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and well-organized work environment.
  • Assist with virtual health visits, including setup and troubleshooting.
  • Accurately document in electronic medical records.
  • Manage messages in the electronic health record as instructed.
  • Perform front desk workflows as needed.
  • Follow up on orders, referrals, and collect co-pays.
  • Order supplies, track referrals, and dispose of contaminated supplies.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development.
Licensing/Certification:
  • Active Medical Assisting certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, NHA, NCRMA, NCMA, or NCCT).
  • BLS certification (preferred at hire, required before independent patient care).
Education:

High School/GED required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.

Work Experience:

Externship or clinical training preferred; 1 year of recent Medical Assisting experience preferred.

Skills:
  • Medical history and vital signs recording.
  • Medication administration and specimen collection.
  • Patient education and communication skills.
  • Sterilization and laboratory procedures.
  • Office duties and multitasking abilities.
