Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - St. George Primary Care - Medical Office

Join our team as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) at Bon Secours Mercy Health in St. George Primary Care. We are dedicated to improving healthcare quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness, with recognition for clinical and operational excellence.

Note: Non-certified Medical Assistants will also be considered; certification must be obtained within 12 months of employment.

Job Summary

The CMA works closely with primary care physicians to deliver excellent patient care, including reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms.

Essential Functions
  • Provide respectful customer service to patients and community
  • Prepare and review patient charts, verify diagnostic results, hospital reports, and medical records
  • Measure vital signs: pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight, height
  • Perform clerical duties: checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, answering phones
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly
  • Other duties as assigned
Education
  • High School Degree or GED
Licensure/Certification

Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the following:

  • CMA (American Association of Medical Assistants), RMA (American Medical Technologists), CCMA (National Healthcareer Association), NRCMA (Nationally Registered), NCMA (National Association for Health Professionals), NCCT (National Center for Competency Testing)
  • If unable to obtain certification immediately, Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable (not in South Carolina)

BLS Basic Life Support from American Heart Association is required at hire for some locations and prior to independent patient care at others.

Experience
  • Preferred: 1 year healthcare experience as a Medical Assistant
  • Preferred: 2 years clerical experience in a physician's office

  • Problem-solving, basic computer skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills
