Who are we looking for?

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) will provide clinical and administrative support to ensure high-quality patient care and efficient office operations. This role involves assisting healthcare providers with patient exams, procedures, and managing tasks. The CMA is expected to remain on-site until the last patient leaves for the day.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Assist in patient examinations and procedures by preparing necessary instruments and supplies.
  • Obtain patient histories, vital signs (including height, weight, BMI, temperature, manual blood pressure, and pulse rate), and document information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Administer medications and vaccinations as directed by healthcare providers (including IM, SQ, and oral).

Clinical Duties

  • Perform basic laboratory tests and prepare specimens for outside labs.
  • Assist with minor surgical procedures and provide post-operative care.
  • Ensure exam rooms are stocked and maintained in a clean and organized manner.

Patient Education

  • Provide patients with information on medications, treatments, and follow-up care.
  • Educate patients on health maintenance and disease prevention.
  • Provide patients with after-visit summaries.

Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Collaborate with physicians, APPs, and other staff to coordinate patient care.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to care plan discussions.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records using electronic health records (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Close visit notes within 48 hours.
    • Respond to inbox items (including lab results, imaging results, and patient messages) within 48 hours when not on call, and within 24 hours when on call.
    • Document patient-related/employee-related incidents per office policy within 24 hours.
  • Document any MOA-specific assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Comply with all state and federal regulations, including HIPAA and other relevant healthcare laws.
  • Complete assigned compliance and HR trainings before the expiration date.

Administrative Duties

  • Schedule and confirm patient appointments, including follow-ups and referrals.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and assist with medical billing as needed.

Patient Satisfaction

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with patients, ensuring a positive experience during visits.
  • Address patient concerns and questions in a timely and professional manner.
  • Foster a compassionate and patient-centered environment.

What you need for this role?

Education

  • Completion of or enrollment in (must complete within 6-12 months) an MA training program and active certification required (CMA or RMA).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Previous experience in a medical office or clinical setting is preferred.

Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and basic computer applications.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for long periods and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

  • This position will primarily be in a medical office setting and may require occasional travel to other locations for outreach, training, collaboration purposes, and/or disaster response.
  • Potential exposure to infectious diseases; adherence to safety protocols required.
