Job Summary:

The Certified Medical Assistant works closely with primary care physicians to deliver excellent patient care, ensuring services are within Medical Assisting scope and state guidelines. Responsibilities include reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide excellent customer service by greeting patients respectfully
  • Prepare and review patient charts, verifying all test results and reports are accurate and current
  • Measure vital signs such as pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height
  • Perform clerical duties like checking inventory, tracking referrals, and answering phones
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education:

  • High School Degree or GED

Licensure/Certification:

Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the following (required):

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA); American Association of Medical Assisting
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA); American Medical Technologists
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA); National Healthcareer Association
  • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA); National Association for Health Professionals
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA); National Center for Competency Testing

If unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable (not in South Carolina).

BLS Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association is required at hire for some locations.

Experience:

  • One year of healthcare experience as a medical assistant (preferred, not required)
  • Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office (preferred, not required)

Skills & Abilities:

  • Problem-solving skills, basic computer skills, and excellent communication
  • Professional interaction with staff and patients
