Job Summary
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) provides patient care under the supervision of a medical provider. This role supports clinical and administrative functions, including assisting with medical procedures, maintaining exam rooms, managing patient intake, and ensuring efficient clinic operations while delivering excellent patient service.
Essential Functions
- Assist providers with clinical procedures such as taking vital signs, wound care, suture removal, administering injections, performing urine tests, EKGs, and applying splints or other specialty-specific tasks.
- Prepare and clean exam rooms for patient visits and procedures.
- Perform patient intake duties, including reporting test results, phone triage, and documenting medical information as directed.
- Complete daily documentation and review of logs.
- Support administrative tasks like pre-registering patients, scheduling, referrals, insurance verification, and communication management.
- Maintain an organized workload while providing prompt, courteous, and efficient service.
- Monitor and requisition supplies and equipment to ensure proper inventory and functionality.
- Educate patients on medications, diets, and health topics, addressing questions for understanding.
- Perform other duties as assigned and comply with policies and standards.
Qualifications
- 0-1 years of experience in a medical setting or completion of externship required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of medical office procedures and patient care techniques.
- Proficiency in medical record systems and basic computer applications.
- Understanding of medical terminology and infection control.
- Strong interpersonal skills for excellent patient service.
- Time management and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Critical thinking for clinical and administrative challenges.
- Ability to perform care according to age-specific competencies.
Licenses and Certifications
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)-AAMA, or
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)-NCTT, or
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)-American Medical Technologists, and
- BCLS - Basic Life Support issued by AHA, ARC, or ASHI.
