Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health is hiring a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) at LGH Podiatry for a full-time position in the Lancaster area.
Location: LGH Podiatry, 2108 Harrisburg Pike Ste 329, Lancaster, PA
Hours: Full-time, Monday - Friday, No Holidays and No weekends
Summary:
- Position Summary: To provide clinical support services to patients at a provider’s office under the supervision and direction of a provider and/or licensed nurse. Patient care includes care for patients across all age groups: pediatric (infant to 12 years), adolescent (13 to 17 years), adult (18 to 64 years), and geriatric (over 64 years).
- Qualified individuals must have the ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform the following duties:
- Prepare patients for visits using appropriate rooming standards.
- Administer injections as prescribed by the provider and in accordance with practice protocol, providing gross observations to the provider or licensed nurse for interpretation as necessary.
- Prepare and administer medications as prescribed by the provider and in accordance with federal and state regulations.
- Assist providers with various procedures, minor surgeries, and other exams as designated by the provider.
- Perform Point of Care Testing, including hearing, flu, urine, and strep tests.
- Remove sutures and change dressings on wounds as necessary.
- Provide clinical advice by phone or electronic correspondence following established triage protocols, and relay information to the patient. Consult a provider or licensed nurse for questions outside of protocols.
- Authorize prescription refills as directed by the provider.
- Assist in test tracking and monitoring overdue results.
- Ensure exam rooms are adequately supplied and cleaned after each patient visit. Maintain and clean medical instruments and equipment.
- Support proactive outreach for patients requiring preventive and chronic disease services.
- Coordinate care activities among specialists and manage transitions of care to obtain all necessary patient information.
- Assist in the coordination of referrals, education, and community resources.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience and quality of care.
- Participate in daily huddles with the provider.
- Serve as a patient experience advocate by maintaining professionalism and positive interactions with patients, visitors, and colleagues, prioritizing customer service.
- Handle all patient information confidentially according to Lancaster General Health policies.
- For LGH Podiatry, this role may require occasional regional travel.
- For regional positions, travel to various sites within the region to support operational needs, assist at new practices, and lead onboarding of new team members.
- Perform secondary duties such as front office responsibilities and other tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Minimum Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited institution (AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT, RMA, or NAHP). If not currently certified, must complete a Medical Assistant training program prior to hire and obtain certification within six months.
- CPR Certification: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire.
- For regional positions: Valid driver’s license required.
- Must be in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal/state health insurance programs, i.e., not excluded from participation.
Credentials:
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) (Required)
- Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (Required)
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
