Job description

This position will be located in Buffalo, TX in our Family Medical Clinic.

Hours: Full-time Monday - Friday 8AM to 5PM

Job Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA):

  • Performs both clinical and administrative duties in a fast-paced healthcare setting to support the delivery of high-quality patient care
  • Responsibilities include assisting with patient preparation, vital signs, data collection, medication administration, and front-office tasks including scheduling and patient communications

Essential Functions

  • Greets and prepares patients for examination and procedures
  • Takes and documents vital signs, medical history, and other pertinent data
  • Assists physicians with exams, procedures, and treatments
  • Administers injections, performs waived lab tests, and collects specimens
  • Documents all clinical care and updates patient records accurately and timely
  • Performs front desk duties including scheduling, registration, answering phones, and handling prescription requests
  • Calls in prescriptions, obtains prior authorizations, and facilitates communication between patient and provider
  • Ensures cleanliness, stocking, and organization of exam rooms, labs, and supplies
  • Provides patient education under physician direction
  • Maintains logs, performs sterilization of instruments, and ensures equipment is functioning properly

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology, anatomy, and infection control
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Customer service orientation and ability to work in a team-based environment
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and general office equipment
  • Ability to lift patients, push/pull equipment, and stand or walk for extended periods
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA regulations

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program required

Licenses/Certification

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent through AAMA, AMT, NHA, NAHP, or AAH required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required

Experience

  • Minimum of six (6) months of Medical Assistant experience in a clinical setting preferred
  • Two (2) years of physician office or hospital-based experience preferred
  • Familiarity with specialty practice protocols preferred
