Job Description

Overview: Provides accurate and timely information to visitors and callers. Responsibilities include pre-certifying with insurance companies, filing, scheduling, maintaining records in the Electronic Medical Record system, processing patient specimens, and direct patient care. Assists providers with office procedures. Administrative tasks include scheduling appointments, billing, coding, and maintaining records. Clinical duties include taking vital signs, documenting medical histories, preparing patients for exams, drawing blood, and administering medications under supervision. Adaptability to varied tasks is essential.

Responsibilities
  • Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies.
  • Change dressings on wounds.
  • Sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for testing.
  • Schedule patients for tests or admissions.
  • Explain treatment procedures and medications to patients.
  • Assist physicians during examinations and treatments.
  • Obtain medical histories and vital signs from patients.
  • Manage inventory and order supplies.
  • Collect co-pays and record transactions.
  • Operate diagnostic equipment.
  • Answer phones and complete insurance forms.
  • Perform laboratory tests and sample analyses.
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed.
  • Maintain clean and prepared examination rooms.
  • Record medical information accurately.
  • Schedule patient appointments.
  • Set up laboratory equipment.
  • Assist patients and prepare them for examinations.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • 1-3 years of medical office experience (preferred)
  • Knowledge of human injuries, diseases, treatments, and preventive health care
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures and office systems
  • Good communication and attention to detail
  • Certified Medical Assistant credential required
  • Basic Life Support and First Aid (American Heart Association) within 60 days
  • Child and Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter training within 180 days
