POSITION SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing patient care and support within the ambulatory setting. The Medical Assistant accurately completes patient interviews, collects specimens, assists providers with exams and procedures, maintains inventory, provides patient education, and ensures quality care and services as directed by the physician. This includes performing phlebotomy, CLIA waived testing, specimen collection, and clinical tasks such as EKGs, drug/alcohol testing, and splinting. The Certified Medical Assistant administers formulary medications safely as directed by the physician and protocols. The role supports organizational goals through quality customer service, participation in performance improvement, and teamwork.

Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of a Medical Assistant program required.
  • License/Certification: Certification in Phlebotomy preferred. BLS/HCP certification within six months of hire. Must have graduated from an accredited post-secondary Medical Assistant program with at least 330 hours of instruction, including medication administration training as per NJ requirements. Maintain active national certification with an approved agency.
  • Experience: 1-3 years in ambulatory care preferred. Ability to handle high-volume interactions with interruptions required. Proficiency in clinical applications preferred; training will be provided if needed.
Performance Expectations

Demonstrates competencies as per the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

Work Environment

Potential exposure to hazards, bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, hazardous substances, and injury. Requires physical activity including reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally. Long periods of telephone work are also required.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports to department leadership as assigned.
