The Certified Medical Assistant functions as a member of the patient care team, contributing to the health management of patients. They perform a variety of patient care activities and supportive services for clinic patients, often assisting section physicians and working under the supervision of the Patient Care Manager. The role includes primary responsibility for technical procedures and the operation and care of the nursing unit within the department.
Formal training, likely indicated by certification from an accredited medical assistant program; current CPR certification; and at least two years of broad experience, with an emphasis in family practice.
Must be able to move, traverse, position oneself, remain stationary, and negotiate steps for up to eight hours daily. Capable of lifting, moving, and transporting patients, equipment, and supplies. Requires good motor coordination, manual dexterity, articulate speech, the ability to read and understand orders, and visual acuity.
