Job summary

Highpoint Health Winchester with Ascension Saint Thomas is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to support patient care under RN supervision. The role includes monitoring vital signs, assisting with daily living activities, and documenting care in the unit following hospital standards.

The position offers a day shift, full-time hours, and a commitment to staff development within Lifepoint Health. Certification and BLS are required, with DME and daily operating duties included in the workflow.

Qualifications

• National Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant is required.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
• Handle with Care certification is preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic patient care activities under RN supervision.
• Monitors and records vital signs and intake/output; reports changes.
• Assists patients with bathing, grooming, toileting, eating, and ambulation.
• Maintains clean, safe, and organized patient rooms.
• Documents patient care and activities in line with standards.
• Supports nursing and physician staff and unit workflow.

How You'll Contribute

A Certified Medical Assistant who excels in this role:

• Provides basic patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Monitors and records vital signs, intake and output, and reports changes in patient condition to nursing staff.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, toileting, eating, and ambulation.
• Observes and promptly reports abnormal physical, mental, or emotional findings.
• Maintains patient rooms and common areas to ensure a clean, safe, and organized care environment.
• Supports nursing and physician staff with patient care activities and unit workflow.
• Manages tech desk operations and assists with maintaining efficient department throughput.
• Documents patient care and activities in accordance with hospital and unit standards.
• Participates in required education, competency validation, and performance improvement activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
