Bone & Joint Specialists, P.C. is seeking a focused Certified Medical Assistant to support our Neurosurgery Department. You will record patient histories, vital signs, and test results, manage scheduling, and assist with procedures while maintaining confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.

You will coordinate pre- and post-procedure activities, prepare treatment rooms, and ensure accurate documentation for patients and insurance. Travel to multiple clinic locations may be required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; 1–3 months related experience or training.
  • Current Certified or Registered Medical Assistant Certification required.
  • Willingness to travel to Merrillville, Highland, Hobart and Crown Point.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains and records patient histories, vitals, test results for medical records with confidentiality.
  • Coordinates scheduling, patient check-in/out, and maintains patient records.
  • Prepares treatment rooms and assists with procedures; stocks rooms at end of day.
  • Delivers compassionate support to patients and families.
  • Completes documentation for patients and insurance.
  • Coordinates information for surgeries including clearances and scheduling.
  • Obtains prior authorizations as needed.
  • Ensures HIPAA and OSHA compliance.
  • Receives patient calls/messages and routes them promptly.
  • Manages EMR inboxes and faxes.
  • Prepares injections for physicians and dispenses DME.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

About the Role:

Bone & Joint Specialist is expanding our Neurosurgery Department and we are looking for a motived, dependable, responsible Certified Medical Assistant to partner with our growing team.The Certified Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting healthcare providers by delivering high-quality clinical and administrative assistance in a medical setting. The role requires maintaining accurate patient records, managing appointment schedules, and facilitating effective communication between patients and healthcare professionals. The Medical Assistant also contributes to patient education and ensures compliance with healthcare regulations and safety standards. Ultimately, this position is essential for enhancing patient experience and supporting the overall efficiency of the healthcare team.

Job Description

  • Obtains and records patient medical histories, vitals, test results, quality measures and other information for medical records while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Coordinates the daily administrative activities, including scheduling, patient check-in and check-out, and patient medical record maintenance.
  • Prepares treatment rooms for clinical examinations and assists practitioners with medical procedures and other patient care and cleans and stock rooms at end of clinic day.
  • Delivers compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
  • Complete any documentation necessary for patients and insurance.
  • Coordinates any necessary information for surgeries including medical clearances and scheduling as needed.
  • Obtains prior authorizations as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
  • Receives patient calls and messages and ensures they are documented and handled or routed with compassion and in timely fashion.
  • Manage EMR message inboxes and process faxes.
  • Prepare injections for patients as directed by physicians.
  • Dispense DME such as boots, braces, etc.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certificates, licenses and registrations required: Current Certified or Registered Medical Assistant Certification required.
  • Must be able to travel to the following location: Merrillville, Highland, Hobart and Crown Point.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and other external parties in a courteous and friendly manner at all times.
  • Must be detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Firm grasp on medical practices, administrative processes, and organizational policies.
  • Knowledge of patient care and examination procedures.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times.
